Join Deb on this amazing tour of the island of Sao Miguel, where she will guide you through her favorite stomping grounds. You will be steeped in the Azorean culture of authentic food, amazing faith, and breathtaking views.
Itinerary
Departing from Boston Logan International Airport on August 9, 2023, and arriving on the island Thursday, August 10, 2023. We are prechecked at the Award Winning Terra Nostra Garden Hotel in Furnas for 2 nights. Day one will be a day of rest surrounded by thermal pools and breathtaking botanical gardens. We will meet for a welcome dinner and then head toward the gardens for a sacred sound bath.
On Friday August 11, 2023, we will be touring the Gorreana Tea Plantation, one of the oldest tea plantations in Europe, the Riberia das Caldeiroes for sound healing and the Lagoa das Furnas to view the geothermic ovens that cook traditional cozido. Lunch will be served. Afterwards we will view Caldeiras then head to Villa Franca do Campo.
On August 12th we will check in to the Azor Hotel in the city of Ponta Delgada where we will then proceed to Nordeste to see magnificent view points of Miradouro das Bodes and Ponta da Madrugda. Afterwards we will head to the eastern most point of the island, Ponta da Arnel, to observe the small fishing port and its lighthouse. Once in Nordeste, we will have lunch at a local restaurant and take in the local culture of the small village.
On August 13th we will be taking an adventurous off-roading tour of Sete Cidades on ATVs with breathtaking views of the lagoons and ocean.
On August 14th we will be heading to Povoacao where we will spend the day at Deb’s kindergarten teacher’s bed and breakfast, Casa Maria de Deus, with its amazing views and an incredible loving hostess Maria. There we will experience a full day of spiritual magic.
On August 15th you will have a day of leisure up until 6pm where we will make our way to Agua do Pau for their religious festival, where the island celebrates Mother Mary’s Ascension into Heaven.
On August 16th we will make our way to the center of town to visit our Mother Church then afterwards we will tour the historical synagogue of Sao Miguel. After these tours we will head to the city for a walking food tour of different cuisines of the island. Before heading back to the hotel, we will head over to the Lagoa do Fogo and the beautiful Riberia Grande.
On our last day you will be able to sleep late and rest by the pool before heading back to our reality. We will be departing the island at 6:05pm and arriving in Boston at 7:50pm.
